Since 1983 J & D Christmas Trees has been focused on growing and selling high quality Christmas trees. Purchased in 2000, the current farm location was chosen because of it's natural beauty, and the ability for us to establish "Harvest Your Own" Christmas tree experience. All of our trees are grown using modern farming techniques coupled with the art of hand shearing.
Spruce is our #1 seller. It has strong branching for heavier ornaments and a strong scent that lasts a long time. They are better for a short term tree. ie they lose needles faster than the other guys.
Fraser fir has stronger branching than Balsam and amazing needle retention. If you are putting a tree up early, this is the tree for you. We had ours up for 6 weeks last year and hardly any needles on the floor. Scent is strong early, with citrus hints, but does not last.
Balsam fir is the traditional Canadian Christmas tree. A favourite of people from the East Coast and Quebec. The branching is not as strong so heavy ornaments are out. Needle retention is better than spruce and the needles are soft so less annoying. Scent is a mild citrus that lasts for a few weeks. We are having a Balsam this year as Eva is an East Coaster and wants a little bit of the Maritimes in the house!
